Nutmeg Oil is distilled from the seed located in the nutmeg fruit (Myristica fragrans). It is clear or pale yellow in appearance and tastes and smells of nutmeg. It is most commonly used as a flavorant in a baked good, sweets and syrups. Nutmeg oil can also be used in tooth pastes and as a major ingredient in some cough syrups. When used externally nutmeg can help alleviate rheumatic pain, and can be combined with thyme or rosemary to create a massage oil to treat overexertion in muscles.
Nutmeg is known to have some hallucinogenic properties, myristicin and elemicin are thought to be the cause!
