The compound Pinene Alpha is an organic member of the terpenes classification. This monoterpene can be found in oils taken from many species of coniferous trees, most commonly pine trees. It is typically obtained through the distillation of turpentine oils that have been tapped from a living pine tree. Pinene Alpha is known to have some highly sought after effects when introduced into the human body. At low levels of exposure, Pinene Alpha can be used is a bronchodilator and an anti-inflammatory.

It has observed that Pinene Alpha exhibits behaviors that classify it as an Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor. Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitors work by increasing the levels and duration of action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine – which aids in memory function. These Inhibitors are often used to treat neurodegenerative conditions, such as; Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Dementia. The increased alertness and enhanced memory found in these patients, make it a popular natural additive in the Cannabis Industry. When used in various marijuana strains, Pinene Alpha is seen to work similarly in the brain to counteract the memory deficits that often come as a side-effect of THC consumption, making it more appropriate to be used medicinally.
